Chapter Three - Recognizing Boundaries

CHAPTER THREE-RECOGNIZING BOUNDARIES  04-03-16

The purpose of boundaries is to protect and take care of ourselves. We have the right and the responsibility to define our personal boundaries. The youth of the world are shaped by their family, culture and religion. Then their access to a gloibal civilization will bring new exposure to all forms of relationships, social, culture, and religious concepts that differ from their own. When we set boundaries we show respect for ourselves and confidence that no one will be allowed to intrude. We protect the child within.

Establishing a healthy relationship between ourselves, the environment, and all life is a prerequisite to the establishment of sound personal boundaries. Without personal boundaries we are reduced to using deceptive manipulation when dealing with others to achieve our objectives. Setting personal boundaries is necessary if we are to have a respectful, trusting, and truthful relationship with ourselves. If we cannot respect ourselves we cannot be trusted to deal directly and honestly with those we wish to communicate with. If others have no personal boundaries it is impossible to have a healthy relationship. When we establish and trust our boundaries we let go of the outcomes and own the right and responsibility to manage our lives.

All world citizen boundaries are in flux. The dark and light side of human nature has a powerful influence on establishing personal boundary limits. Each citizens position in society, government, and institutions effects ones boundaries. Human boundaries are also a function of the pressures, struggles and challenges faced in daily living. Boundaries are shaped by the degree of learning, experience, and enlightenment gained by living.

As you can see the development of individual boundaries is complex, difficult to measure, and changeable. As we associate with one another on a daily basis we soon develop a feel for each others boundaries. These boundaries reflect who we are, what we stand for, and possibly our life potential.

The following Website: www.mendeley,com/research/ecological-boundaries-community-boundaries-pol... addresses these issues. The following is an Abstract that summarizes the contents:

Abstract-Ecological boundaries are increasingly used as practical boundaries for land use planning. This shift requires new forms of community interaction and often new social institutions, such as special-purpose committees and boards, that cross traditional jurisdictions. These institutions offer the promise of more coherent and holistic approaches, transforming problem-solving paradigns based on isolated issues and technical solutions into a search for solutions to necessarily interrelated problems. Building lasting social institutions, however, requires careful attention to political avenues for citizen involvement and represenntation. As cemters of power and influence shift to accommodate a new sense of ecological boundaries, we must ask how this shift will affect our political rights.Certainly the urgency of resource conservation and protection militates for efficient action. But energizing new social responses to environmental problems at appropriate ecological scales, as positive as this may seem, must not bypass the necessity of reaffirming hard-won democratic freedoms.

Personal Boundaries

A boundary is a dividing line between you and anyone else. The line represets both physical and emotional limits others may not violate. you set your boundaries to stop anyone, even your most loved one, from crossing the line with you. Setting boundaries raises self-esteem and sends the message that you are worthy of care and respect. Setting boundaries let people know what your limits are and what they can do around you. Boundaries are innate and change as necessary to survive under all circumstances. Unacceptable behavior can be addressed by gently reminding, informing, and cautioning that person that you cannot tolerate his actions or behavior.

Boundaries that keep you grounded and at peace in your relationship with yourself, the environment, and all life is your first line of defense in the life you have to live. These may be innate and learned boundaries, but, they define the very essence of you.

Personal boundaries begin with self awareness and the need to communicate honestly, calmly, and constructively. The challenge is to prevent outside interests from shifting your personal boundaries to suit theirs. It's important to resist changing your boundaries in order to please outside interests that have agendas that may not be in your best interest.

Consider four main classes of boundary traits: (1) origin and maintenance. (2) spacial structure. (3) function. (4) temporal dynamics..

Social Boundaries

Humans are social creatures. The term culture rightly applies to the ordering of social relationships between human beings. Each social group has an idea of proper social relations between members.

Culture is created by relationships of the individuals in their social interaction. How stable, rigid or flexible this social system is depends on many complicated factors.

The Social Culture occurs when we engage in interpersonal encounters. The term Social Culture refers to the full range of informal and formal structure in these encounters and relationships, including group identification.

In summary, culture seems to be summed up in shared experiences

Cultural Boundaries

Cultural boundaries are summed up in the totality of social behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work.

Religious Boundaries

Religion, like culture is related to our quest for meaning. We attempt to explain our existence in terms of Deities. Current religious culture is being flattened by the media, internet, and by the exposure to and adoption of other cultural approaches to dealing with life.

Racial Boundaries

How do we define ourselves? Do we identify our self-image by race, ethnicity, physical looks, education or environment? What are the classifications on what makes each and every one of us different? Each day as we look in the mirror, who do we see? The person we identify in the mirror may be a completely different perception to someone else. The ultimate question is: what is right? Which view of us is correct in the context of science, anthropology, and society?

This question has plagued the minds of scientists over the years. Technically, race is defined as a classification given to certain cultural groups based on certain characteristics. So, in order to be placed into a certain race, you must "fulfill" certain criteria that can be identified to that race. However, in the United States and all across the world, this concept of absolute race is becoming harder and harder to define. The United States is known as a nation of immigrants. Unlike any other country, we have hundreds of cultural groups of different races that make up the foundation of our society. Whether Black, White, Asian, Indian, Native American and so on, we are all defined as Americans due to the country where we live and build our lives.

Government Boundaries

The United States is in distress and citizens know it. Our branches of government know it. Those attempting to run for President know it. World nations know it. A majority of friendly nations are deeply concerned. They know the common welfare of the United States is critical to their future welfare. The political divides within the United States and its fiscal irresponsibility makes meeting current and future challenges nearly impossible. The wealthiest United States Citizens will do just fine. Those not possessing wealth must prepare to sacrifice their families, futures, homes, and possessions. The next generation must prepare to shoulder an enormous debt also. For a divided nation there is no other answer.

A sane person would ask how the United States, anchored by the Constitution, arrived at this State of the Union. The fault lies not with the Constitution, a constitutional republic form of government. The fault lies with three branches of government and partisan political parties that prostitute the Constitution for wealth, power, and financial gain. Citizens lacking knowledge of their Constitutional responsibilities gradually and willfully delegated all their power to states and the federal government. It's always rewarding to shed responsibilities. Recognizing this the branches of government free rein to justify their leaving citizens in the dark. Partisan Political parties found their impowerment by dividing the nation into partisan political parties. This was not a hard task because human nature likes to divide people into good and evil and play one against the other. In this case Republicans demonize Democrats and Democrats demonize Republicans. Mission accomplished. Now national citizens are divided about 50/50. The beauty of this is that nations citizens are divided and cannot use the Constitution amendment process to reclaim their constitutional rights. They cannot muster a majority of citizens and therefore cannot regain their empowerment.

First, citizens can gain their empowerment legally and peacefully if they really want to assume their Constitution responsibilities. The Constitution gave and still gives citizens all Constitutional power and responsibility for establishing and assuring that the Constitution is enforced. At this stage the following must occur before citizens can become empowered: Citizens must become knowledgeable of their Constitution and their responsibilities. This Website is designed to guide you through that process. Becoming knowledgeable of your Constitution and the Founding Fathers cautions and checks and balances will give you an understanding equal to all those in Congress and a wisdom you never dreamed possible. Citizens will be amazed at their responsibilities and the authority that the Constitution grants and requires of them. Citizen lives will change and their future has no limits.

Second: Citizens must become knowledgeable of government functions, processes, and policies.

Third: Citizens must be proficient in organizing, tasking, and delegating authority to citizen commissions skilled in all professions necessary to advise citizen committees what policies, goals, and responsibilities should be required of the state and federal government.

Fourth: Once the above has been accomplished citizens are prepared to stand independent and be guided by their own reasoning, policies, and goals for family, state, and nation. If enough citizens reach this stage they can unify and become independent of partisan political parties and all special interests that strive to shape the nation for themselves. Independent citizens unified, organized, and striving for the common welfare will return this nation to it's rightful place as leader of all world nations.

Graphical boundaries are necessary for establishing the location of nations, states, counties, and cities. Boundaries take into consideration population density, political considerations, and geographical conditions such as rivers and mountain ranges. Boundaries may change as required to adjust for the expansion of cities and social needs such as sanitation and hospitals .The nature and significance of political boundaries is demonstrated by the ramifications of imaginary lines that define how many United States congressmen each state, based on population, is allowed.

National morality boundaries are difficult to define. The same is true of a universal or global morality. All life species, except Homo sapient, are moral. Humans are basicall immoral. All nations could be declared immoral. The United States living under a Constitutional Republic form of government had an opportunity to be a moral government. However, the United States found the boundaries of a Constitutional Republic to confining and broke away. Except for humans, all other life species live natural lives in harmony with the environment. Not so humans. Humans are a singularity of nature defined by a level of intelligence that allows forms of deviant behavior not evident in any other species.

Environmental Boundaries

The universe has boundaries. It has a periphery that is marked by the outer boundary of the expanding universe. Physicists have determined that our universe is one of billions of universes.  Many physicists like James Hartie and Stephen Hawking believe that the paradoxes in theoretical physics can only be solved by specifying the boundary condition of the universe. By definition matter is an entity, which can occupy a definite location in space. If there is no space, matter looses its definition.

Planetary boundaries are interdependent because transgressing one may shift the position of other boundaries or cause them to be transgressed. Planetary boundaries define the the boundaries of the space humans consume. The goal is to avoid major human induced environmental changes on a global scale. We have reached a stage where abrupt global environmental change can no longer be excluded.

The physical environment is all those physical and social conditions that surround a person and can influence that person's health. This includes both your outdoor and indoor surroundings. The planet's natural ecosystems and regenerating bio-capacity are being severely degraded and, as a result, this compromises the ability of the planet to sustain life. Natural ecosystems are all threatened while many are on the verge of collapse. Every world citizen must accept responsibility for assuring that the environment continues to sustain life. Every day decisions and consumer choices must be based on preserving the environment. Establishing a healthy relationship between ourselves, the environment, and all planet life is a prerequisite to the establishment of sound personal boundaries.

Ecological Boundaries:

Humans have the freedom and responsibility to pursue and identify near and long term environmental boundaries that may impact life as we know it. There may be boundaries that jeopardize the operating space for humanity. The knowledge gaps are disturbing. There is an urgent need to identify environmentgal thresholds that must not be crossed. Crossing one boundary may threaten other boundaries. Preliminary analyses suggest that we have already crossed climate boundaries due to the rate of biodiversity loss and the rate of  interference with the nitrogen cycle. There is little doubt that environmental changes create a challenging paradox. These changes threaten the planets ability to sustain life. The concept of planetary boundaries provides a framework for humans to explore.

Wealth Boundaries

The Seven Principles of Mindful Wealth:

  •  Most people limit their wealth by choice (Either cosciously or unconsciously)
  •  Money is not evil. The way money is earned and spent is good or evil, depending on the ethics applied to it.
  •  Money shall be accumulated (earned) in service of protecting sustainable life. (It shall also be earned ethically, honestly, and without deception).
  •  Money shall not be hoarded.
  •  Poverty is not pious. You do not gain bonus karma points for being in poverty.
  • Natural living advocates have a moral obligation to mindfully attract and redestribute vast amounts of wealth, in alignment with their core beliefs and with full honesty in their methods.
  • Apply these principles to your own finances, and you will allow enormous wealth to flow to you and through you.
